I took this photo from a rooftop at the edge of the medina in Fes in late June 2009. It was a nice moment in an otherwise challenging long day. I’d spent the day on the hottest train I’ve ever experienced, travelling from Marrakesh to Fes. Other than the unfathomable heat, it was a good trip. I sat in a shared car with an ever-changing cast of people, each of whom I appreciated and enjoyed after several days of solitude. Unfortunately, shortly after this photo was taken I had to leave this hotel in response to a sketchy interaction with the owner.

It would be nice to start a new blogging project with an interesting and insightful well-crafted post. Sorry to disappoint you, but this isn’t going to be it. I will say this, though: I’m working on an essay. It’s partly an assignment for the writing class I’m taking, and partly a personal project. When it’s finished, if I feel ready, I’d like to submit it to the Globe’s Facts and Arguments column. However, considering that I have never published any creative writing (unless you consider my self-publishing during the early days of blogging) it might be aiming a little high. Which is not to say that the Globe is very discriminating, but that I don’t want to set myself up for disappointment. They could be just discriminating enough to not take my writing!

I sent a draft to my writing group, so I’ll see what they have to say.
